B.Sc. Wood Technology with Education

This degree combines the technical study of wood as an engineering material with the skills to teach it. It suits students interested in making, building, or manufacturing with wood, and in passing that knowledge on. Entry is less competitive than many engineering programmes, and it is open to students from several SHS backgrounds.

Programmes of this kind usually cover the properties of wood, how it is processed and manufactured into products, and the machinery used in woodworking and furniture production. They also include teaching methodology, so graduates can work in classrooms as well as workshops. Most graduates go into furniture making, construction, or technical education at secondary schools.

Who can apply and how competitive it is

This programme is less competitive than many other engineering and technology degrees, which means a reasonable WASSCE aggregate may be enough. It accepts students from General Science, Technical Studies, and Visual Arts backgrounds, so it is a practical option for students who liked working with materials in school.
