Bachelor of Education in Computer Science

The Bachelor of Education in Computer Science at the University of Ghana prepares you for a career as a computing teacher. It is offered through the College of Education and combines computer science content with professional teaching skills.

Why study computing and education together?

This kind of programme is built around two areas. On one side, you study computer science itself – programming, data, systems, and the way technology solves real problems. On the other, you learn how to teach: how people learn, how to plan lessons, how to assess students, and how to manage a classroom. The goal is to produce graduates who are confident with technology and who can also explain it clearly to others.

How hard it is to get a place

Entry to this programme is highly competitive, which means you will be competing with some of the strongest WASSCE candidates in the country. Places are limited, and only applicants with excellent grades in relevant subjects are offered admission. Check your results against the entry requirements to see whether you meet the subject standards, and remember that strong overall performance gives you the best chance.

What you can do with this degree

Graduates of computer science education programmes typically go into teaching at the senior high school level, especially in ICT or computer science. But the degree also opens doors beyond the classroom, such as educational technology, curriculum design, and corporate training. Many graduates also continue to further study in education or computing.
