Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)

The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) at GIMPA Law School is a degree in law and legal studies. Entry is less competitive than at some other universities, making it a realistic option for many SHS leavers. This page explains what the degree involves and what you can do with it.

What studying law involves

Programmes of this kind usually cover core legal subjects such as constitutional law, criminal law, contract law, and property law. You will develop skills in legal research, analysis, argument, and writing — abilities that are valuable beyond the courtroom. Most law graduates go on to qualify as lawyers, but the degree also opens doors in business, government, and non-profit work.

How hard it is to get a place

Entry to the LL.B at GIMPA is less competitive than at some other law schools. For example, the University of Ghana's law programme is highly competitive, while GIMPA's is more accessible. This means that if your WASSCE results are solid but not exceptional, you still have a good chance of securing a place. Always check your own grades against the specific admission requirements.

What you can do after graduation

After graduating, you can pursue a professional qualification to become a lawyer, or apply the skills you have learned in roles such as legal advisor, corporate counsel, or public administration. Many graduates also work in banking, journalism, or international organisations where legal knowledge is an asset.
