Will you get in?
Meet the minimum pass grades for this level and you will be considered. Enter your WASSCE grades and we will tell you whether you meet the published cut-off for this programme — and every other programme at Central University you qualify for.
Check if you qualifyThis programme introduces you to the theory and practice of computing, from writing code to designing systems. At Central University it is housed in the School of Engineering and Technology. It is open to students from Business, General Arts, General Science, and Technical Studies backgrounds.
What computer science actually is
Computer science is the study of how computers and software work, and how to build things with them. Programmes of this kind usually cover programming, data structures, algorithms, databases, computer networks, and operating systems. You learn to solve problems by writing code, but also how to think logically and design systems that are reliable and efficient.
How hard it is to get a place
This programme is less competitive than many others in Ghana, meaning the admission bar is more achievable for the average WASSCE student. That does not mean there are no requirements – you must still meet the university's published entry grades, and your SHS background must match what they accept. Here, students from Business, General Arts, General Science, and Technical Studies are all considered, so a wide range of SHS leavers can apply.
What you can do with it afterwards
Most computer science graduates go into software development, writing applications, websites, and mobile apps. Others work as systems analysts, database administrators, network engineers, or IT consultants. The skills you build – especially in programming and logical thinking – are useful in every industry, from banking to health, education to entertainment.
