Bachelor of Technology in Rehabilitation Engineering

Rehabilitation engineering applies engineering principles to design devices and systems that help people with disabilities live more independently. The programme is offered in the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences at Koforidua Technical University and is open to General Science SHS leavers. Competition for entry is less intense than for many other engineering programmes, but you should still check whether your grades meet the requirements.

What rehabilitation engineering actually covers

Programmes of this kind usually cover biomechanics, assistive technology, prosthetics and orthotics, wheelchair and mobility design, and rehabilitation robotics. You learn how to assess a person's needs, design custom solutions, and work alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Much of the work is hands-on, combining electronics, materials science, and mechanical design.

How hard it is to get a place

This programme is less competitive than many other engineering and technology courses. That means that if you have a General Science background and your WASSCE grades are in the expected range, you have a reasonable chance of being admitted.
