BEd. Early Childhood Care and Education

The BEd in Early Childhood Care and Education at the University for Development Studies prepares students to work with young children from birth to around age eight. Programmes of this kind focus on child development, learning through play, and the design of safe, stimulating environments for early learners. You will learn how to support children's cognitive, emotional, and social growth during the years that matter most.

What early childhood care and education covers

Programmes in early childhood care and education typically cover child psychology, health and nutrition, curriculum planning for young children, and how to work with families and communities. You build practical skills in observing children, designing activities, and managing a classroom of young learners. Graduates go on to teach in nursery and kindergarten settings, work in early childhood development programmes, or take on coordinating roles in community-based childcare.

How hard it is to get a place

Entry to this degree is less competitive than many other university programmes, which means your chance of getting a place is generally higher. That does not mean there are no requirements — you still need to meet the academic standards for the programme, including the relevant WASSCE grades. If your grades are close to the typical range, it is worth checking whether you qualify.
