BSc (Agric-Business)

Agribusiness is the business side of agriculture. This degree combines food production with economics, marketing, and management, so you can turn farm goods into thriving enterprises. At UCC, it is offered through the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, and getting a place is competitive.

What agribusiness actually is

Programmes of this kind usually cover both agricultural science and business management. You learn how crops and livestock are produced, but also how to finance a farm, market its output, manage supply chains, and deal with the risks of weather and prices. The skills you build include financial analysis, budgeting, negotiation, and strategic planning — all applied to the food and farming sector.

How hard it is to get a place

At UCC, entry is competitive. You need an SHS background in Agriculture or General Science, and your grades will determine whether you qualify. The same programme at KNUST and the University of Ghana is highly competitive, which means UCC is easier to get into than those two, but still not guaranteed. If you have strong grades in the required subjects, it is worth applying.

Where agribusiness can take you

Graduates typically work wherever agriculture meets money. Employers range from large commercial farms and agribusiness companies to banks, insurance firms, NGOs, and government agencies. Many graduates also start their own agricultural ventures, using the business skills to make a profit while improving food supplies.
