BSc Urban Design and Planning

Urban design and planning shapes how towns and cities grow and function. This degree, offered in the Faculty of Planning and Land Management, blends design, social science, and policy to help you understand land use, housing, transport, and public spaces. What urban design and planning is about

Programmes of this kind look at how cities and towns are planned, designed, and managed. You study land use, housing, transportation, environmental issues, and the social and economic forces that shape neighbourhoods. You also learn how to read the legal and policy frameworks that guide development, and how to design public places that serve different groups of people. The work often involves drawing maps, carrying out surveys, analysing data, and talking with residents, officials, and developers.

Skills you build and where they lead

Urban design and planning develops practical skills in reading plans and maps, using mapping and design software, collecting and interpreting survey data, and writing clear reports. Most graduates go into public planning departments, private planning and design consultancies, real estate and property development, NGOs working on community and environmental issues, or transport and infrastructure agencies. Some continue to further study in urban planning, architecture, geography, or land management.

How competitive entry is

Entry to this programme is less competitive than many other university degrees, meaning your WASSCE grades do not need to be outstanding to be considered. You should still aim for strong passes across your subjects and check directly with SD Dombo University to confirm whether your particular results meet their requirements.
