B.Sc. Economics

Economics is the study of how people, businesses, and governments make choices about scarce resources. The B.Sc. Economics programme at Ashesi University, offered through the Economics & Business Administration faculty, prepares you to understand markets, policy, and decision-making. Entry is less competitive than at some other Ghanaian universities, but you still need to meet the required standards.

What studying economics involves

Programmes of this kind usually cover microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, and econometrics, alongside subjects like development economics and public policy. You will learn to analyse data, think critically about incentives, and use economic models to explain real-world issues from inflation to poverty. The skills you build – quantitative reasoning, problem-solving, and clear communication – are valuable across many careers.

How hard it is to get a place

At Ashesi, this programme is less competitive to get into than at institutions like KNUST or the University of Cape Coast, where the same programme is highly competitive. That means your chances of admission are relatively better, but you still need to meet the entry requirements for your SHS background: Business, General Arts, or General Science. What you can do after graduation

An economics degree opens doors in banking, government, international organisations, and private business. Many graduates work as economists, financial analysts, policy advisors, or data analysts.
