Cape Coast Technical University's School of Engineering offers a B-Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical engineering is the field that deals with machines, energy, and manufacturing. This programme is a less competitive route into an engineering career for SHS leavers from General Science or Technical Studies.

What mechanical engineering involves

Mechanical engineering programmes usually cover the principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, and manufacturing. You learn how forces and motion affect machines, how heat and energy are converted, and how materials behave under stress. Practical work often includes computer-aided design, workshop skills, and testing prototypes. How hard it is to get a place

Places on this programme are less competitive than on many other engineering degrees. The School of Engineering admits students from General Science and Technical Studies backgrounds, so if you took either of these at SHS, you may be eligible. Because competition is lower, it may be more accessible than other engineering programmes, but you still need to meet the published entry requirements. Check your WASSCE grades against those requirements before applying.

Where a mechanical engineering degree can take you
