Economics is the study of how people, businesses and governments make choices under scarcity. A BA in Economics builds your ability to interpret data, understand markets and evaluate policy. What economics actually covers

Programmes like this typically cover microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and econometrics. You learn how households, firms and governments behave, how prices are set, how money and trade work, and how to use data to test ideas. By the end, you should be able to think clearly about incentives, measure trade-offs and present evidence in plain language.

How hard it is to get a place

This programme is competitive to get into. Expect strong competition from other WASSCE graduates, and make sure you meet the subject requirements listed on KNUST's admissions pages. Your grades will need to be good, but there is no fixed cut-off point to tell you in advance — the university decides based on each year's applications.

Where an economics degree can take you

Most graduates go into banking, business analysis, finance, government policy, or research. You might work as an economist, a data analyst, a financial advisor, or a civil servant. The mathematical and writing skills you build also suit careers in consulting, law, or further study in economics and related fields.
