BA. Political Studies

This degree introduces you to the ideas, institutions and power structures that shape how countries are governed. You will examine how political decisions are made, who influences them, and how citizens can participate. It is a social science programme offered by KNUST's College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

What political studies involves

Programmes of this kind usually cover political theory, comparative government, public administration, and international relations. You will study how different political systems work, how policies are formed and implemented, and the role of institutions like parliaments, judiciaries, and political parties. The degree also builds skills in critical reading, clear writing, argument analysis, and interpreting political data and events.

How hard it is to get a place

This programme is highly competitive. That means the university receives many more qualified applicants than there are places, so strong grades in your WASSCE results are important. Check the published entry requirements to see whether your subject grades qualify you for consideration.

Where the degree can take you

A political studies degree prepares you for careers in government, public policy, diplomacy, journalism, and advocacy. You could work as a policy analyst, political researcher, public service administrator, or in an international organisation.
