What interior design programmes cover

Interior design is about more than choosing curtains. Programmes of this kind teach you how to plan and shape the inside of buildings so they are safe, comfortable, and pleasant to use. You will typically study design principles, colour, materials, lighting, space planning, and drawing, including computer-aided design (CAD). You also learn how people behave in different settings and how to turn a client's brief into a workable scheme.

What interior design graduates do

Most graduates work in design firms, architecture practices, or on their own as freelancers. They design homes, offices, shops, hotels, and public spaces, selecting finishes, furniture, and lighting, and preparing drawings and specifications. Others move into related fields such as set design, exhibition design, property styling, or sales and product consultancy for interior products.

Getting a place on this programme

Entry to this programme is less competitive than many degree courses. Central University admits students from General Science, Home Economics, Technical Studies, and Visual Arts backgrounds. That means you do not need to come from a single 'arts' stream to apply.
