What studying biochemistry actually involves
Programmes of this kind usually cover the chemistry of biomolecules like proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids, and how these molecules drive metabolism, genetics and cell function. You build practical lab skills in techniques such as spectrophotometry, chromatography and molecular biology, plus the ability to interpret data and solve problems in biological systems.
How competitive is entry at KNUST?
Admission to KNUST's BSc Biochemistry is highly competitive, meaning far more students apply than there are places. Your grades in relevant sciences will need to be strong. Compared with similar programmes elsewhere, this one is more competitive than those at University of Cape Coast or University of Health and Allied Sciences, and significantly more competitive than C. K. Tedam University of Technology & Applied Sciences.
Which SHS backgrounds are accepted
The College of Science admits students from Agriculture, Business, General Science, and Home Economics backgrounds. If you come from one of these, you can apply; but keep in mind that biochemistry requires strong foundations in chemistry and biology, so General Science is the most typical route.
