What biological sciences covers
Biological sciences is the study of living organisms, from microscopic bacteria to plants, animals, and humans. Typical programmes cover cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, ecology, and physiology. You will learn how to design experiments, collect and analyse data, and work safely in a laboratory. Many degrees also include fieldwork, so you may spend time sampling plants and animals in natural habitats.
How competitive a place is
Entry into this degree is competitive, meaning you will need strong WASSCE results across your science subjects, not just the minimum requirements. The University of Ghana publishes a specific requirement of at least C6 in Chemistry, so that subject is essential. Applicants are considered from Agriculture, General Science, and Home Economics backgrounds, so if you are coming from one of those, you are eligible to apply. Because places are limited, achieving grades above that minimum will improve your chances.
