KNUST's College of Science accepts SHS backgrounds in Agriculture, Business, General Science and Home Economics, so the programme is open to a broad range of students even though the subject is technical. Getting in is highly competitive. For comparison, the same programme at University of Ghana is also highly competitive, while at University of Cape Coast it is competitive, and at several other institutions it is less competitive. That means KNUST is one of the harder places in Ghana to enter for computer science, so your grades need to be among the best.

What computer science graduates actually do

Most graduates go into software development, working as engineers or programmers building applications, websites and systems. Others move into data analysis, IT project management, cybersecurity, network administration or technical consulting. Because computing skills are portable, graduates also find roles in banking, telecommunications, health, education and government. You could end up writing code, designing databases, keeping systems secure, or helping organisations use technology more effectively.
