BSc. Medical Imaging Technology

The BSc Medical Imaging Technology at the University for Development Studies is a highly competitive degree programme run by the School of Allied Health Sciences. It trains students to become skilled professionals who operate imaging equipment used to diagnose and monitor medical conditions. Graduates are in demand across hospitals and clinics in Ghana and abroad.

What medical imaging technology involves

Programmes of this kind usually combine human anatomy, physiology, and patient care with the technical operation of imaging equipment such as X-ray, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines. You learn how to produce high-quality diagnostic images while keeping patients safe from radiation and other risks. You also develop communication skills to work with patients and other healthcare professionals. Most graduates go on to work as radiographers or imaging technologists in hospitals, diagnostic centres and private clinics.

How hard it is to get a place

Entry to this programme at UDS is highly competitive, so you will need strong WASSCE grades. The School accepts applicants from both General Science and Home Economics backgrounds, which gives a slightly wider entry route than some other health programmes. If you are concerned about your grades, it is worth checking whether you meet the requirements and also looking at the same programme at other institutions — for example, Accra Technical University offers the same programme and is less competitive to get into.
