BSc. Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a health profession focused on helping people of all ages do the everyday activities that matter to them. This degree prepares you to work with individuals facing physical, mental, or social challenges, supporting them to live as independently as possible.

What occupational therapy actually involves

Programmes of this kind usually cover human anatomy and physiology, psychology, and the theory of occupation. You learn how illness, injury, or disability affects a person's ability to work, study, care for themselves, and take part in community life. Much of your training is practical, showing you how to assess a client's needs and design activities or routines that build their skills and confidence.

How competitive the place is

This is a competitive programme, meaning that getting a place requires strong WASSCE results. Because it sits within the College of Health Sciences, the university looks for applicants with a solid science background. You will need to check whether your grades meet the specific subject requirements for admission, as they can change from year to year.

SHS backgrounds that can apply

The College of Health Sciences considers students from General Science and Home Economics backgrounds. If you took either of these in senior high school, you may be eligible to apply. Home Economics students with a strong science component are often good fits for the practical and people-focused nature of occupational therapy.
