What dispensing optics really involves
Dispensing optics is the health profession that fits and supplies spectacles and contact lenses. You will learn to interpret prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists, take facial measurements, help patients choose frames and lenses, and make sure the finished glasses sit correctly and do the job. The work is precise and people-centred. You will develop skills in measurements, communication, customer care, and the practical use of optical equipment.
Getting a place on the diploma
Entry into this diploma is competitive, so you will need solid passes across your SHS subjects, particularly in your electives. To apply, you must have taken three electives in Science or Health Sciences. The selection is based on your grades, but the competition means you should compare your results carefully with what your chosen college asks for.
