Will you get in?
Meet the minimum pass grades for this level and you will be considered. Enter your WASSCE grades and we will tell you whether you meet the published cut-off for this programme — and every other programme at Tamale Technical University you qualify for.
Check if you qualifyThe HND in Welding and Fabrication Engineering at Tamale Technical University trains you to work with metal: joining, cutting, shaping and assembling components and structures. It is a hands-on engineering discipline, and the qualification is awarded as a Diploma. If you are a General Science or Technical Studies student from SHS, this programme may be a good fit for you.
What welding and fabrication covers
Welding and fabrication engineering is about joining metals and building things from them. You learn gas and arc welding methods, cutting, bending, reading engineering drawings, and checking the quality of your work. Fabrication takes raw steel plate or pipe and turns it into gates, structural frames, tanks, railings, machine parts, and other products used everywhere from workshops to construction sites. Most programmes of this kind also cover workshop safety and measurement, so you leave ready to work with your hands on real projects.
How hard it is to get a place
Entry is less competitive than many other engineering programmes, meaning the grades you need are within reach for more SHS leavers. Tamale Technical University admits students with General Science and Technical Studies backgrounds, so if you studied either of these at SHS, you are eligible to apply. Check whether your own grades meet the specific requirement, but the competition level is lower than for programmes that receive far more applicants.
Where the HND can take you
Graduates of welding and fabrication programmes commonly work as welders, fabricators, workshop technicians, and quality controllers. The skills are needed in construction, oil and gas, manufacturing, vehicle repair, and maintenance. With experience, you can move into supervisory roles in metal workshops or on industrial sites, and you can also build on your HND with further study in engineering.
