Check if you qualifyThe B.Sc. Management Education at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) combines business and management studies with practical teaching skills. This full-time programme, based at the Kumasi campus, prepares students for careers in education and corporate training. Here you will learn what the programme covers, how hard it is to get a place, and what you can do with the degree afterwards.
What management education programmes cover
Programmes of this kind usually combine core business subjects such as management, accounting, economics and entrepreneurship with training in how to teach. You learn how to present these subjects in a classroom, plan lessons, assess students' progress and manage a school environment. At the same time, you develop practical skills in running a business and understanding how organisations work, which are valuable both inside and outside the classroom.
How competitive it is to get a place
Admission to this programme is less competitive than to many other degree courses in Ghana. That means if you meet the basic WASSCE requirements in the relevant subjects, you have a good chance of receiving an offer. The same programme at the University of Education, Winneba is also less competitive, suggesting that management education is an accessible field for SHS leavers. You should still check with AAMUSTED for the exact grade requirements, as these may change from year to year.
Where this degree can take you
Most graduates of management education programmes go on to teach business-related subjects at senior high schools, technical schools or vocational institutions. Others find work as corporate trainers, designing and running staff development programmes for companies, or as education administrators in schools and colleges. Some graduates also move directly into business management or entrepreneurship, using the practical skills they have gained.
