BSc. Agriculture

The BSc Agriculture is a degree programme at the University of Cape Coast, offered within the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. It gives students a science-based understanding of farming, food production, and land use, and it is designed for those coming from SHS Agriculture or General Science backgrounds.

What studying agriculture involves

Programmes of this kind typically combine biology, chemistry, and economics with practical farm skills. You learn about crop production, animal rearing, soil management, agricultural machinery, and how to run a farm as a business. The work is hands-on and often includes time on farms or in labs. Most graduates go into agribusiness, agricultural extension, research, or teaching, and some start their own farms or consult for organisations that work with farmers.

How competitive is it to get in?

At the University of Cape Coast, the BSc Agriculture is a competitive programme. It is on the same level as the one at the University of Ghana, and more competitive than the equivalent programmes at Sunyani Technical University, Tamale Technical University, and the University for Development Studies. If you are coming from SHS with Agriculture or General Science, you are eligible to apply, but you will need strong grades to stand out.
