BSc. Agriculture

The BSc Agriculture programme at the University of Energy and Natural Resources is a degree in the agriculture and environmental sciences field. It is aimed at students who have studied Agriculture in SHS, and entry is less competitive than at some other universities. What an agriculture degree covers

Programmes of this kind usually cover the science and practice of producing food, fibre, and other crops, and raising livestock. You learn about soil, water, plant and animal biology, farm management, and the economics of agricultural businesses. The degree also touches on environmental issues such as climate change, sustainability, and land degradation, and how agriculture can be made more efficient and environmentally friendly. It builds practical skills in observation, problem-solving, data analysis, and managing real-world projects.

How hard it is to get a place

This programme is less competitive than the same BSc Agriculture degree at the University of Cape Coast and the University of Ghana, both of which are competitive. That means that if you meet the published entry requirements, you have a realistic chance of getting a place. The requirements are: Core English, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies; plus one of these electives: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Agriculture, or Elective Mathematics. You must have studied Agriculture in SHS. The exact grades you need are not published here, so check whether your WASSCE results qualify.

Where agriculture graduates work

Most graduates of agriculture programmes go into roles that help produce food and manage natural resources. You could work as an agronomist, advising farmers on crop and soil management; as an agricultural extension officer, spreading new techniques to rural communities; or as a farm manager, running a commercial farm. Others go into agribusiness, food processing, quality control, or environmental consulting. You can also go on to further study in agriculture, animal science, or environmental management, and many graduates end up running their own agricultural enterprises.
