What this field actually covers
Programmes in climate change and sustainable development look at the science of a warming planet and the social, economic and policy tools used to respond. You will typically learn how to assess environmental risks, design adaptation strategies, and understand how energy, agriculture and land use connect to global climate goals. The combination of natural science and social science means you finish with both technical knowledge and the ability to communicate and plan.
How hard it is to get a place
This is a less competitive programme, which means your chances of admission are higher than for many other degree options. You need passes in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, plus an elective from Geography, Economics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or Biology. The university admits students from Agriculture, General Science and Home Economics backgrounds, so your SHS combination is unlikely to hold you back.
Where it can take you
Graduates work in environmental consultancies, government agencies, NGOs and international organisations. Typical roles include climate change analyst, sustainability coordinator, environmental policy adviser and project officer for development programmes. The degree also provides a foundation for further study in environmental management, energy studies or development planning.
