Check if you qualifyAgribusiness combines agriculture with business thinking. This degree programme helps you understand the entire food system, from farm to market. At the University of Energy and Natural Resources, it is offered under the School of Agriculture and Technology, and entry is less competitive than at some other universities.
What agribusiness is about
Programmes of this kind usually cover the business side of agriculture, including farm management, agribusiness finance, marketing of agricultural products, and value-chain analysis. You also learn how policies and markets shape food production. Most graduates go on to work in companies that trade, process, or finance agricultural goods, or in the wider food and agribusiness sector.
How hard it is to get a place
This programme at UENR is less competitive, meaning you have a better chance of admission than at more selective universities. The same programme at the University of Cape Coast is competitive. You still need to meet the entry requirements, which are core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies, and one or more electives from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Agriculture, or Elective Mathematics. UENR's School of Agriculture and Technology admits SHS leavers with an Agriculture background.
Where agribusiness graduates work
Graduates typically find work as agribusiness managers, agricultural consultants, commodity buyers, and farm managers. Others join banks or non-profits that lend to or support farmers, and some start their own agribusiness firms. The field offers opportunities across production, processing, and trade.
