BSc. Physician Assistantship

The BSc Physician Assistantship trains you to work in clinical settings, often providing primary care and supporting doctors. This programme is offered at Presbyterian University's Asante Akyem Campus, and entry is less competitive than at some other institutions.

What physician assistants do

Physician assistants are health professionals who examine patients, diagnose common illnesses, and prescribe or carry out treatment under the supervision of a doctor. They work in hospitals, clinics, and community health centres, and they are especially important in areas where doctors are scarce. The programme typically covers anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical skills, preparing you for hands-on patient care.

How hard it is to get a place

Entry into this programme is less competitive than similar programmes at other institutions, such as the University of Health and Allied Sciences, which is highly competitive. This means you have a better chance of gaining admission, but you still need to meet the academic requirements. Your admission will be based on your WASSCE grades and the published requirements.

Who can apply

You need three elective science subjects plus three core subjects. The college admits students from General Science, General Arts, and Home Economics backgrounds, so if you have taken any of these, you may be eligible. Diploma and advanced degree holders can also apply for placement into Level 200 or 300, subject to an interview.
