How competitive is entry

This is a highly competitive programme, more so than most other courses at the university. You will be competing with many strong General Science students from across the country. Success depends on excellent WASSCE results, particularly in the core sciences. As entry is so competitive, it is wise to aim for the very highest grades you can and to check the specific qualifying aggregates published by the university at the time of application.

What you can do after graduation

Most graduates go on to complete the mandatory housemanship, after which you become a medical officer registered with the Medical and Dental Council. From there, many specialise in fields such as surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, or obstetrics. Others move into medical research, public health, academia, or healthcare management. The degree is also recognised internationally, giving you opportunities to work or further your studies abroad.
