Check if you qualifyThe Bachelor of Public Health in Health Promotion at the University of Health and Allied Sciences prepares you to help communities lead healthier lives. This programme focuses on education, prevention, and the factors that shape health behaviour.
What health promotion is about
Health promotion programmes of this kind deal with the social and behavioural side of public health. You learn how to design and run initiatives that encourage healthier choices, from anti-smoking campaigns to nutrition education. The field draws on communication, psychology, epidemiology, and community engagement to address problems like infectious diseases, maternal health, and lifestyle-related conditions.
How competitive it is
Getting a place on this programme is competitive, which means you will need solid grades to stand out. It is not as fiercely contested as the highly competitive public health programmes at some other universities, but it is more difficult to enter than less competitive ones. The programme accepts students from both General Science and Home Economics SHS backgrounds, so your route into the field can come through either of those pathways.
Where it can take you
Graduates of health promotion go on to work in many settings. Common roles include planning community health campaigns, working with NGOs and international agencies, and supporting government health programmes. You might also go into health education in schools or hospitals, or move into research and programme evaluation.
