This page explains the usual scope of the programme, how competitive entry is, and the kinds of jobs graduates take on.
What banking and finance programmes cover
A degree in banking and finance introduces you to the structure of financial systems and the role of banks, insurance companies, and investment funds. Typical topics include financial accounting, corporate finance, risk management, investment analysis, and monetary policy. You also learn how to read financial statements, assess credit risk, and understand how interest rates and inflation affect decisions. Most graduates go on to work in commercial banks, microfinance institutions, investment companies, or the finance departments of large firms.
How hard it is to get a place
Entry to this programme at the University for Development Studies is less competitive than at some other Ghanaian universities. For comparison, the same degree at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is highly competitive, while UDS falls in the less competitive band. That means your WASSCE grades are not required to be as high as those accepted at highly competitive institutions, but you should still check the specific admission requirements set by the university to see whether your results qualify.
