What civil engineering covers

Programmes of this kind usually start with foundation mathematics and physical sciences, then move into structures, materials, hydraulics, geotechnics, and construction management. You learn to analyse loads, design structural members, plan and schedule projects, and consider safety and environmental impact. The field mixes desk-based calculation with site-based decision-making, so expect to develop practical judgement alongside technical knowledge.

What you need to have studied

For this programme at UENR you need passes in Core English, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science, plus Elective Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. That means a General Science background fits directly, and Technical Studies backgrounds are also admitted. If you have taken a different combination, you should check whether your subjects line up.

How hard it is to get a place

This is a less competitive programme to enter. Compared to civil engineering at KNUST, which is highly competitive, UENR offers a more accessible route into the same field. You still need solid grades in the required subjects, but you are not fighting for one of a tiny number of places.
