What renewable energy engineering covers

Programmes of this kind typically draw on physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, and the science of energy conversion. You will learn how solar panels, wind turbines, biomass systems, and small hydro plants work, how to size them for a location, and how to connect them to the grid. Emphasis is also placed on practical skills such as project planning, energy auditing, and maintenance, so that graduates can manage installations from design to operation.

How hard it is to get a place

This programme is less competitive than many other engineering degrees, which means your WASSCE grades do not need to be at the very top of the national range. No official cut-off aggregate is published here; instead, your application is assessed on the subjects you have passed and the grades you earned in them. If you meet the requirements listed below, you have a good chance of being admitted.

What subjects you need for admission

The published requirements are three core WASSCE subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science. Your three electives must be Elective Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. This combination is the standard set for engineering programmes in Ghana, and it is what the admissions team will look for. The university accepts students from General Science as well as Technical Studies, so if your SHS background is one of those, you are eligible to apply.
