How hard it is to get a place

Entry to this programme is less competitive than to mathematics at University of Cape Coast, which is highly competitive, and also less competitive than at KNUST and University of Ghana, both of which are competitive. The published subject requirements are Core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and an elective from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. The School of Sciences accepts SHS backgrounds in Business, General Science, and Technical Studies, so you are not limited to a general science background. The requirements are subject-based, so the best way to find out if your grades are enough is to contact UENR admissions directly with your WASSCE results.

Where a mathematics degree can take you

Graduates of mathematics programmes commonly go into careers in finance, banking, insurance, and technology, where quantitative expertise is prized. You could work as a data analyst, actuary, statistician, or financial modeller, or enter software development and IT. Another common route is teaching mathematics at the secondary or tertiary level, often followed by further study. The problem-solving core of the degree also opens doors in management, the civil service, and consultancy.
