What a chemistry degree covers

Programmes of this kind usually cover the main branches of chemistry, including organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. You spend significant time in the laboratory developing practical skills in handling chemicals, carrying out experiments and using analytical instruments. You also learn how to interpret data, solve problems and apply chemical principles to real-world situations, from developing new materials to monitoring environmental quality.

How competitive entry is

Entry to this programme is less competitive than at some other Ghanaian universities offering the same subject. For example, KNUST and University of Cape Coast are both highly competitive, while University of Ghana and University of Health and Allied Sciences are competitive. At UENR, the programme is less competitive, which means your chances of getting a place are better. You will still need to meet the published requirements and do well in your WASSCE exams.

What you need to have studied

To apply, you need passes in core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science. You also need elective passes in Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The university accepts students from Business, General Science and Technical Studies backgrounds, so check whether your elective choices line up with the requirements.
