What agronomy actually is
Agronomy is the branch of agriculture that deals with field crops and the soil they grow in. Programmes of this kind usually cover crop production, soil science, plant breeding, weed and pest control, and farm management. You learn how to apply scientific knowledge to practical farming problems, from smallholder plots to large commercial farms. Most graduates work in agricultural extension, agribusiness, or research.
How hard it is to get a place
Entry into this programme is less competitive than many other degrees. That means your chances are reasonable if you have the right SHS background. The university accepts students from Agriculture, General Science, and Home Economics. As with any degree, you still need meet the published entry requirements, so check whether your WASSCE grades qualify.
