BSc Mining Engineering

Mining engineering is the field of engineering that deals with the safe and efficient extraction of minerals from the earth. This BSc programme at the University of Mines and Technology, offered by the Faculty of Mining and Minerals Technology, gives you a broad technical education in a sector central to Ghana's economy. What mining engineering programmes cover

Mining engineering programmes usually cover geology, mine design, mineral surveying, and the processing of extracted ores. How hard it is to get a place

This programme is less competitive than many other engineering degrees. That means your WASSCE aggregates do not need to be the very best, but you must still meet the published requirements. You need credits in any three of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Geography. The university also accepts SHS graduates from Agriculture, General Science, and Technical Studies backgrounds. If you have strong passes in these subjects, it is realistic to apply.

Most mining engineering graduates go into the mining industry itself, working in roles such as mine planning, production supervision, or health and safety. Others work for engineering consultancies, mining equipment suppliers, or government bodies that regulate mineral extraction.
