How hard it is to get a place
Entry to this programme is less competitive than to many other engineering degrees. The published subject requirements are credits in any three of Physics, Mathematics, Applied Electricity or Electronics, ICT or Computer Studies, Technical Drawing or Metal Work. Chemistry can be substituted with Applied Electricity or Electronics. If you are coming from General Science or Technical Studies and have these credits, you are likely to be eligible to apply. As with all programmes, admission also depends on your overall WASSCE results and the number of places available.
What you can do with this degree
Most graduates go into industries that design, install, operate, or maintain electrical and electronic systems. Common job areas include power generation and transmission, telecommunications, electronics manufacturing, automation and control, and renewable energy. You could work as an electrical engineer, electronics engineer, maintenance engineer, or project engineer. Some graduates also go into technical sales, system design, or further study in specialised areas like robotics or fibre optics.
