Check if you qualifyThis is a certificate programme in Engineering Technology offered by the University of Mines and Technology, but only for employees of its industry partners. It runs on weekends, which makes it possible to study while working. The programme is less competitive to get into than many other engineering courses.
What engineering technology programmes usually cover
Programmes like this one focus on the practical side of engineering. You learn how to apply engineering principles in real-world settings, including workshop skills, equipment operation, maintenance, measurement and testing, and production support. Graduates often go on to work as engineering technicians, maintenance staff, or production supervisors in industries such as mining, manufacturing, construction, and energy.
Who can apply and how hard it is to get in
This certificate is only open to people already employed by UMaT's industry partners. It is not available to direct SHS leavers. If you are eligible, you will need a background in General Science or Technical Studies from SHS. Entry is less competitive than many other programmes, so those who meet the requirements have a good chance of getting a place. Classes are held only on Saturdays and Sundays, so you can attend without interrupting your workweek.
