What you study in a natural gas technology programme
Programmes of this kind usually cover the basics of natural gas formation, drilling and extraction, processing and purification, compression and pipeline transport, and safe storage and distribution. You develop practical skills in operating and maintaining equipment, monitoring pressure and flow, and following safety and environmental rules. The work is applied and hands-on, and it directly supports the companies that find, process and deliver natural gas.
How hard is it to get a place?
Entry is less competitive than many university programmes, which means you are more likely to gain admission with solid WASSCE passes. The School of Petroleum Studies accepts students from the General Arts, General Science and Technical Studies backgrounds, so your SHS specialisation does not lock you out. Since classes are only on Saturdays and Sundays, the programme can also suit anyone who needs to combine study with work or other commitments.
